Dear Winston Campus Elementary Families,
May has arrived and I can't believe we only have one month left to the school year. It has been an amazing year for all our students but we still have a month left and a lot of work still to do. Our teachers are committed to the education of every child at Winston Campus Elementary and we are going to seize every possible teaching moment. We do have some fun end of the year events planned but these events are a privilege for our students and we do expect all of our students to finish the year strong.
During the month of April we had some very successful events. I want to thank all the WCE families for your support of Jump Rope for Heart. Winston Campus Elementary raised over $1,800 for the American Heart Association. I want to thank the WCE Make a Difference Club, Cheryl Eisenmenger, Sharon Rusk, and Sandy Beckers for all your help with the organizing of this event. It was a huge success! I would also like to thank Scott Lindstrom for planning and organizing an amazing Science Fair. We had over 60 different science exhibits set up and on display and over 100 of the Winston Campus Elementary students participated. This was a great event for parents to do something fun and educational with their child. I had a blast working with my boys on our science project. Thank you to our PTA for your support of these events.
I would like to invite all Winston Campus Elementary students and families to our Spring Share on Thursday, May 10. Grades K- 3, AIME, Mrs. Morelli, and Mrs. Haas's classrooms are invited to join us from 6:00 to 7:00pm. Grades 4-6, Mrs. Grelck, Mrs. Etchingham, Mrs. Griffin, and Mrs. Baldus's classrooms are invited to join us from 6:30 to 7:30pm. Spring Share is a student led interactive night that highlights current classroom activities. All of the WCE classrooms will have a specific academic focus and our students are eager to share this with you. In addition to our classroom activities, many other highlights will be shared this evening. There will be a student art display in the cafeteria, a presentation of how iPads enhance our special education services, a chorus and orchestra performance, a SMART Board and Destiny Quest demonstration, fitness stations in our gym, instructional ensemble stations in the music room, Aided Language Simulation Presentation (AIME), and the book fair will be taking place on the stage. Spring Share is our opportunity to show off all the amazing things we do at Winston Campus Elementary.
The Winston Campus Elementary Student Council is hosting a shoe drive for Share Your Soles. This event has already started and it ends on Wednesday, May 2. Share Your Soles is a non - profit organization that donates shoes to impoverished people all around the world. It is not too late to donate your gently used shoes. Please send these to school with your child, we have collection boxes in all of our classrooms.
Throughout the course of a school year, the WCE parents volunteer countless hours of their own personal time to support Winston Campus Elementary. We can't thank you enough for all your care and support. I would like to invite all our parent volunteers to a breakfast on Friday, May 18 from 7:45 to 9:00am in Room C101. If you volunteered to chaperone a field trip, or helped at a PTA event, hosted an After School Specials class, helped out in the classroom or in the LRC you are welcome to join us. This is our way of saying thank you because we truly appreciate all you have done! I hope to see you on Friday, May 18.
I would also like to invite you to participate in our Walk for Technology or Tech Trek on Friday, May 18 starting at 2:30pm. This event is sponsored by the District 15 Educational Foundation. Over the past four years, we have purchased many SMART Boards for our classrooms. Our technology team is constantly looking at new and innovative technology that can be used for instructional purposes. Technology has changed how we teach and our use of it only further engages our students into learning. The proceeds from the Tech Trek will go back to the school to purchase technology for our classrooms.
We have a very busy month ahead of us. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 847-963-7400 or
